The great, the good and the really, really ugly: Part 1

My hubby has the week between Christmas and New Years off every year. This year we decided to splurge and take the family to the Oregon State bowl game. They were playing in the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco. So the day after Christmas we packed up the camper and headed out to make the 11 hour drive. Due to the joy of having a stomach bug run through the family over the few days before Christmas, we had to make several unscheduled stops for my son which added at least an hour to the drive. We had a very unusual white Christmas and the snow showers continued through our drive. Lucky for us, the temperature was just warm enough that nothing was sticking on the roads.

The mountains were not much problem with just a few icy patches and a bit of snow.

We entered California at around 7p.m. We stopped and ate dinner that we cooked while traveling then got back on the road. I love being able to do that, just stick something in the oven and make time while it cooks. Originally we were going to stop for the night at a Wal-Mart or other such venue North of the 505 split. However, upon not finding one we ventured on to Vacaville. We arrived in Vacaville at around 1:30 a.m., found a Wal-Mart and Sam's Club. The security guard informed us that overnight stays were not allowed at Wal-mart but we could stay across the street at the Sam's club. We rolled over, got everyone situated into their beds and called it a night.
